All transactions in Ghana will take place with the Ghanain Cedi currency. Travellers cheques may be exchanged in the capital (Accra), however you are likely to receive a worse exchange rate than using cash. Exchanging currency is recommended in US Dollars, Euros or GB Pound Sterling. It is also thoroughly recommended to retain all receipts for exchanges so the process of exchanging back to your currency choice is smoother. Credit Cards may be used in larger stores and banks, though please note there is a high number of fraud cases involving cards, so please choose carefully.
